I think it muddies the water. They appear to be have mostly been charged based on their intent. And they pled guilty to charges that we all assumed didn't apply to services like theirs. Hopefully they win on appeal.

It's a humiliation ritual. If you don't grovel, they'll sentence you to a longer term.
