I sometimes search Zillow for cheap houses in areas where it might make sense to put in an Avalon Q to earn some bitcoin. Are there any digital nomad stackers who are hunting for a dream home? Check out this beauty:

Sure, it may be lacking in curb appeal, but it is in a low cost of living area with some of the cheapest electric rates around. (11.6 cents per KWH).

My wife browses Zillow as a hobby too, but somehow I think her search results are different from yours

reply

Same same

reply

Glad to see I’m not alone

reply

One of my wife's favourite pastimes as well.

I hope so, for your family's sake.

reply

how do you search the electricity rates when looking at houses ? I love the idea, btw.

reply

I do a search of the lowest electric rates in the US. I think Dickens County, TX is the best. Washington State, Wyoming, South Dakota, Kentucky and Arkansas also have low rates. I also would prefer really low rates in a cold climate, so summer ac costs are less.

reply

To keep a house warm through a South Dakota winter would take some serious hash.

reply

Definitely. I also have thought about a cabin on raw land with water frontage for hydro power. I spend a lot of time day dreaming😀

We'll make the owner a bitcoin offer he can't refuse.

reply

hmmm i see ya i just found a cool way to look up average rates by utility provider. then its just a matter of finding where they provide utility services and searching on zillow in cities in that coverage area. and i suppose if you actually got trigger happy just gotta double-check with the seller what the rate is.

look up a state, it'll list the utility providers and their respective rates. i have done no research on its accuracy so...dyor blah blah blah

reply

Washington State has low rates???

I am in. Let's buy it and rig it up. Which stacker is going to live there and be operations manager?

Here's my resume

reply

I’m impressed with your MS Paint skills, but I don’t think you’ve beaten me yet! Ahaha

Impressive.

reply

You're hired. When can you start

reply

That's the question.

reply

Shouldn't you be looking in cold places, like the Dakotas.

reply

I researched that. You have to determine the tradeoff between climate and low electric rates. See my other reply about good cold weather states.

reply

Why not just move to an offgrid place that have a river nearby and put a hydro generator on it and mine BTC for free?

I think will be much cheaper and sovereign then looking for a urban house and still paying for electricity.

reply

Yes, I mentioned that in one of my replies. In the US it's not that simple, but it's a great idea. The US keeps very tight control of all but the smallest streams. I have actually talked to people who know a lot about this stuff. Environmental regulations are strict. It's particularly tough if you have land with, say, river frontage. Its easier for a stealth operation with a stream or spring surrounded by your own land.

reply

Fuck environmental regulations!
You are a lawyer, you know the tricks.

reply

The problem is being discovered and losing all the hydro equipment.

reply

such a "land of the free" ... LOL

reply

Exactly. 😀 I have thought about this more than you would believe. There are huge wooded land areas for sale all over the US. Many of them are very cheap, because they are completely surrounded by tracts owned by other people. Newbies think they get a great deal by buying lots of acres, but they can't use it. They can't even visit it. Many of these properties have good springs and streams, and they are very private. BUT, you either have to sneak on someone else's land, get permission from your neighbor, take a manned drone to your property and bring in equipment, etc. It would be an intense operation. This type land was used by marijuana growers back in the day to grow secret crops.

reply

Why Zillow instead of Redfin?

reply

Maybe we should trim those trees and throw some solar panels on the roof too.
