201 days left to the opening match.
The picture is getting clearer and clearer. 42 out of 48 National Teams have achieved their tickets for the World Cup. The draw for the group stage will take place in less than 2 weeks, though we will not get the 6 remaining teams up to March 2026.
I will lay out how everything is at this moment.
Asian Football Confederation (AFC)
No major changes in this group. As Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Korea Republic, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan are already qualified from previous windows. The only significant change was that Iraq beat United Arab Emirates, qualifying for the Play-Off Tournament in March 2026.
Confederation of African Football (CAF)
Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia were already qualified from previous windows. Congo beat Nigeria to qualify for the Play-Off Tournament in March 2026.
Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF)
I mentioned last month that up to 12 teams were involved to achieve 3 tickets for the World Cup. None of the teams that I mentioned that were leading the groups (Suriname, Jamaica and Honduras) made it. Instead, Curaçao, Haiti and Panama got their tickets. It's the first time that Curaçao will play at the World Cup. Just second time for Haiti and third time for Panama. Jamaica and Suriname qualified for the Play-Off Tournament in March.
Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL)
No changes here. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay are already qualified. Bolivia is waiting for the Play-Off Tournament in March.
Oceania Football Confederation
Similar situation in this area. New Zealand is qualified. New Caledonia will be playing the Play-Off Tournament.
Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)
Apart from England, which were already qualified from previous window, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland got their tickets for the World Cup. There are still 4 tickets to be awarded among 16 teams. Italy, Denmark, Czechia, Sweden, Romania and Poland are among the teams fighting. We will get the last four names in March.
What's next?
The final draw will take place on December 5th, in Washington.
