Bought two ukuleles here today. Found them thanks to btcmaps. https://share.google/0AcFrTq8E7kKP0Ucg The cashier didn't know what i was talking about when asking to pay with Bitcoin, luckily her husband (?) did. No Bitcoin stickers here, unlike the previous place i mentioned buying coffee (#1286879). They told me i was the first one to pay with Bitcoin. I'll maybe send them a follow up email to make sure they understand what they enabled. Even though this time, i had to use my custodial wallet of satoshi wallet, didn't have enough sats with Phoenix.
I paid two more invoices after for smaller amounts, and she pulled up the invoices without a problem. So she'll know what to do next time ;)
This is so cool! Maybe I missed something, but it sounds like they were using Square?
Yes, both this one and the previous one use square. But afaik, they still have to activate it, so her husband must have done something.
yes, i am curious about that. I wonder if Square terminals had a pop up or something on an update. I do think they sent out an email about it. Or I wonder if he was someone who heard about it in the news and decided to go for it.
Maybe their (grand)kid. They looked over 60 years old.
I think i read somewhere they are running an awareness program, but don't know the details.
In any event, I've visited those shops specifically coz they were on btcmaps. Otherwise, would have bought the ukulele in ABC store downstairs the hotel. So it pays to activate it.
You are doing excellent work!
Is that square thingy only activated in the US?
Yes. Probably lots of regulatory hurdles to overcome for Square in other countries
Pleas try non custodial Valet ♦️
Valet.finance
Self-custodial is imo a better label. Also this wallet seems dead based on github updates: https://github.com/standardsats/valet
You are welcome to contribute. Thanks
Are other people contributing or did the development stop completely 10 months ago?
And other people means 2 devs who are capable at least maintaining this codebase (it is very sophisticated and hard to maintain project due to Scala - Android stack).
So to clarify - you are suggesting that folks use a wallet that:
I understand that the wallet may be working currently, but this is pretty risky suggestion to make to other people. I was a big fan of SBW, I tried BLW, I tried OBW, I even had Valet installed for a bit. But there's no way I would suggest it to anyone at this point.
It doesn't require commits every month. This is how it works and you may figure it out yourself.
This wallet works as it is.
It was a killer feature of BLW, and original SBW it has forked off, too.
LFG! u kno auready cuz!
similar to my experience this week in a small European village. a cafe is listed on btcmap for two years, but no sticker and I was the first to ask. the owner has wallet of satoshi, was taught two years ago by some local bitcoiners. but said that his accountant knows what to do if he does get paid in sats.
Awesome!
