I don't know enough yet to run a node, I would love to but I don't have the expertise currently, I have autistic like tendencies when it comes to something like this (or retarded), which means I would need to know and understand all the intricacies and outcomes
I'm a control freak also, so if I can't 'know' the reason for any given result, it annoys me and I'd rather just avoid it
Although I am continually adding to my internal learning bank, leading to success in the future 🙌
But having said that, I've consumed a fair amount of content on this whole 'core vs knots' debate
It seems to have died off recently, which aligns with a lot of the furore in Bitcoin, there's always an existential crisis unfolding somewhere

The most interesting explanations for me come from a podcast on fountain called This week in Bitcoin

And the statement that stood out to me was something along the lines of 'Core V30 is being widely adopted and now the Knotsi's are becoming desperate, they are losing market share and resorting to making outlandish claims'

Now that's not exactly what was said but this is the mood I took from the conversation

The core maintainers for me have always been, from an outsider like me, behaved in a quiet unseen way, whereas the personalities from Knots are very public and screaming for attention
I've seen a few plebs accuse some of the knots people of main character syndrome and I can understand this, as far as I can tell, Bitcoin will grind on block after block, regardless of what character of the day is holding court
Also I heard that Ocean is mining Core compatible blocks, meaning money speaks louder than narratives
Am I way off the mark here? I would imagine there's a certain amount of secrecy between plebs about admitting which way they align, perhaps like admitting if they had the covid 💉 shot, or if they voted red or blue, so obviously I'm not suggesting you doxx your opinion
Disclaimer: to a certain extent, my opinion is irrelevant because I'm not running a node, so I can voice my choice in a somewhat neutral way, and get chastised by Darth 🤣
And if you've read this far you can guess which way I'd vote 🗳

Maybe Knots isn't the answer but taking Core out of Bitcoin would be beneficial for the network.
Not upgrading your node to counter a (potentially) corrupted version of Core is not ideal if that is the only counter play.
reply
That's basically what Knots is, isn't it?
I thought Luke was including the Core fixes but preserving the old default settings and configurability.

As I understand Knots fork Core and add some filters and also make it more configurable.
There are apparently bugs in Core so any other implementation needs to line up orwe could get an accidental chain split.
reply
Ok, I didn't realize they added any new filters.

Your sense of discernment seems strong from this write-up and is well summed up here :
The core maintainers for me have always been, from an outsider like me, behaved in a quiet unseen way, whereas the personalities from Knots are very public and screaming for attention
And this paragraph immediately following on is also perceptive :
I've seen a few plebs accuse some of the knots people of main character syndrome and I can understand this, as far as I can tell, Bitcoin will grind on block after block, regardless of what character of the day is holding court
There have been many people who considered themselves the 'main character' in Bitcoin who have then fallen from a great height during Bitcoin's history. People like Gavin Andresen, Mike Hearn & Jeff Garzik. Bitcoin doesn't need any key person (it would fail if it did). Satoshi set this example very early on by disappearing completely from the project himself and relatively early on (i.e. within about 3 years if you count from when he first ran a beta of Bitcoin before publishing the White Paper).
The two key characters behind the Knots putsch very clearly have a 'saviour' complex and are control freaks. There are many, many, mostly quiet but very serious & intelligent people who see right through the empty 'crisis' that the Knots putsch tries to sell and have mostly ignored it because they 1) know it will fail (because it can't succeed) and 2) don't want to engage with time-wasters. The lie that is being sold is mostly only swallowed by people who consume far too many Bitcoin podcasts hosted by mediocre intellects rather than thinking for themselves or looking at what the intelligent developers, who have a long history in Bitcoin, have written when they have chosen to engage (and then considered the merits of their arguments for themselves).

As Chris Fisher of this week in Bitcoin says, changes that Knots are proposing are extremely serious and should take years to implement, all the while Core V30 gains more adoption, alongside V31 when it comes, leading to the knots camp resorting as I say, to increasingly deranged behaviour as they lose their grip on controlling the network
I like and agree with the sentiment in your response, im on the same page as you
