So his current battery capacity is something like 17KW. Let's say that during the night would use 8 hours of battery time so the maximum a mining rig can use 2KW an hour. So for an S19 you'd need to under clock during the night to keep it running 24/7.
The main cost would be internet connection. Because of how remote he is, the only option for a constant internet connection is Starlink which has an initial cost of ~$700 and a monthly cost of $140. At current mempool fees he might be able to make enough sats to pay the monthly internet bill. Maybe if we start consistently seeing higher TX fees it could change. But the other metric that doesn't work in his favor is that hash rate continues to climb which makes his potential mining reward decline over time.

I've put
collect stats for stratum over LTE on my TODO. The great thing about remote/rural cells is that they don't often get into a state where subscriber balancing is needed, like what you'd have in an urban area with lots of traffic, so it can be pretty reliable (depending on the provider's effort of course.)reply

So cell networks work in... cells. The cells have a fixed capacity. If you live in a rural area cell reliability is more constant than in an urban place where everyone moves in and out of the area all the time. But for example a busy highway close by can change that completely.
I've had places where I had super reliable cell service, mostly at the edges of suburban though, and never with AT&T or Telefonica lol.

Oh yeah, no, I just share because it was a silly experiment. I think the idea of hooking like 8 s19s up to vonnets converters and mining from a hotspot is hilarious though.

Yeah, so I think home mining makes the most sense for somebody who’s already got the internet for personal usage. The whole point of my automation is that you’re not running at all at night. Even at as little as it’s running, this little s9 would still pay itself off in less than a couple of years unless it had been bought at an exorbitant price. But yeah, throwing on $700 and a monthly $140 a month would throw everything off, even with as many s19s as you could run on 17kw.
