Do you ever review your chats with ChatGPT? I just did, for the last month. It feels like either I'm not clear, or ChatGPT often chooses to misunderstand me. I kept finding a lot of "What I try to say is..."

What keeps coming up in your chats?

ChatGpt's most accurate answers to my questions come when I give very detailed prompts. The more specific I am, the better the response. I usually delete the chats, unless I'm actively working on something (like when I'm developing a website).

While it's true that their answers often aren't helpful, sometimes they reinforce what I already know, even when I specifically ask for multiple options.

True. Agree with you. But man, it is not easy at all. I wrote about this recently in my newsletter. Check it out: https://tonyaldon.com/2025-12-13-know-what-you-want/

reply

I can't. I'm using ppq.ai, which is account-less (if you use it with a token like I do).

I highly recommend it, though. You can easily switch between all the different models, and get different takes on things.

reply

I didn't know about ppq.ai. Thanks for mentioning it.

Ah! I never do this because it causes context poisoning with the wrong answer. Instead I just start a new chat and improve the query.

reply

Some times I do too. But other times it happens in the middle of an interesting conversation. I should think more about forking right before things stop feeling clear enough 🤔

reply

Oh yeah I don't have conversations with software that can be restarted, lol.

When I asked for a review, ChatGPT told me that I’m special and a polymath and that my projects are in the top .1% of complexity and demonstrated understanding of security, cloud, all the programming languages and complex network configurations. I think it just wants me to keep talking to it.

reply

🤣

reply

I ask it for help with Rust patterns and software recommendations, so I often come back to old chats. Really happy with the search feature, especially since it can be verbose when you ask it for recommendations

reply

I also find it verbose in general. So I often add "be concise" at the end of my requests, and it works pretty well.

reply

I almost always add "be more concise"

"only answer the question I asked, I don't need a preamble and epilogue"

reply

Sometimes. But I do it differently from you. Ever so often, I think about the kind of person I am and ask ChatGPT stuff like “based on what you know about me, how do you find me in (this aspect of human behaviour)?”

Nothing as insidious as the Devil’s trend, though

reply

I haven't tried that yet. What aspect of human behavior did you find most interesting to ask about?

reply

Something like based on our chats, what are my strengths and weaknesses as a teacher?

Or how characteristics an ENFP am I?

Yes, I seek validation from ChatGPT. Kinda pathetic haha

reply

Not at all. We all seek validation in one way or another.

reply

only when I need to search for an answer from a previous chat

most of my chats are forgettable tangents

Fair. A lot of my chats are quick tangents too. Like when I'm just asking for synonyms or short definitions.
