I had to read this a long time ago, and hadn't thought about it again until reading @plebpoet's chapter manuscript. Maybe it is narrative technique that feels similar.
It reads as a series of journal entries of one who, since she is compelled not to write about her condition, writes about that of her house. Makes for a great Sunday sit-down.
Wow! I wondered what this even was, but it engrossed me immediately. I was having a discussion over the holidays about a family member long gone from a prior generation with an undiagnosed nervous condition.
Agree. Very powerfully written.
Also, i found there to be echoes of the covid era, the self-censorship that doctors, medical authorities elicited, the quarantining, gaslighting etc.. Amazing how the wheel of time turns, and humans repeat the same injustices on one another, but just in different forms.
