Instead of getting cheap Chinese solar, they first tariff'd then banned it. Then they subsidized solar installations.

So in the end, tax payer is paying for jobs that are cheaper done in Chiner.

Ouch but solar and commodities are completely different markets. I like solar but when trying to use it at scale cheaply it doesn’t work that well thus Europe footguned itself.

True, it's an intermediate. But I'd not be surprised if in the end the result is the same. In both cases the tariffs are applied to protect local producers that are inefficient.
