Techdirt does not have any patience for Hochul and her latest dumb bill.

It’s compelled speech based on contested science, which means it’s blatantly unconstitutional, and courts have already rejected nearly identical schemes. But Hochul and Gounardes either don’t care or don’t understand First Amendment basics, so New York taxpayers are about to fund a losing legal battle whose only real purpose is generating headlines for those politicians pretending to care about “protecting the children.”
“Addictive social media platform” shall mean a website, online service, online application, or mobile application that primarily serves as a medium for covered users to interact with media generated by other users and which offers or provides covered users an addictive feed, push notifications, autoplay, infinite scroll, and/or like counts as a significant part of the services provided by such website, online service, online application, or mobile application.

So, we just define the word addictive however we want, huh?

They should put a removable sticker on all phones and device packaging instead, reads "you will spend lots of time on your new phone, remove sticker if you already knew that."

Good enough for Humpty Dumpty, good enough for NY politicians.

I've not seen or heard anything remotely impressive yet from NY city since new guy.

There's a lot that can be said about the new guy, but this was from the state, not the city, and he's also only been mayor for five days (for good or ill).

I didn't know there's a ciy/state division in terms of tax. I might have been affected after glossing over some news on someone in the mayor's circle. She sounded slightly unhinged claiming that landlords were immoral for owning property. I'm not sure, could be made up. Maybe had my wires crossed.

Imagine using your time, your creativity and other people's money to actually fix something, rather than fixing nothing, wasting your own time and other people's money to annoy people further with unnecessary things, just to make it look like you are doing something.
