It’s been 4 years since we launched TunnelSats to solve a specific headache: running a hybrid Lightning node (Clearnet over VPN) without leaking your home IP or drowning in manual WireGuard config.

We just pushed v3. It’s faster, cleaner, and finally programmable. We just pushed v3. It’s faster, cleaner, and finally programmable.

What’s actually new:

  • Public API: You can now programmatically buy, renew, and manage tunnels. This is built for node runners who want automation, and for Node OS developers (Umbrel, Raspiblitz, MyNode) to integrate VPN provisioning directly. Docs here.
  • NWC & LN-Auth Login: No email, no passwords. Login via Lightning Node Connect or LN-Auth. We only store what's absolutely necessary to keep the tunnel and sub status available for you, that is encrypted.
  • New CLI Tool: We scrapped the old scripts for a single, consolidated sudo bash tunnelsats.sh. It handles install, uninstall, status checks, and restarts. It’s robust and doesn't break easily.
  • Referrals: If you bring people in, you both get bonus months.

The Gist: We are still No-KYC, Pre-configured WireGuard. We just made the rails better so you can automate your privacy.

Check the new site design at tunnelsats.com or audit the scripts on GitHub.

We want you to break it, test the API, and tell us what’s missing. 🙏

How do I run this with a start 9 node?

We haven't found a way to get this implemented with start9.

As we have to get onto the network layer, to mark outgoing lightning packets and send them through the tunnel, the way how start9 secured their structure makes it quite brittle.

We haven't given up, but it's currently not possible, sorry.
