USA is way behind China in electricity power generation capacity and development. With the emergence of AI this is a strategic - economic- military matter.
China has projected power surplus well into the future capable of powering the energy hungry AI sector- the USA does not have the same forward power generation capacity. Not only is USA way behind in power generation but it is also way behind in terms of adopting modern energy efficient electricity supply and use technology- like LEDs, EVs, lithium batteries, solar PVs, wind power, hydro power, and last but not least modern nuclear plants. China has an absolutely massive lead in terms of building new generation including nuclear where it is building dozens of plants and is achieving construction at a cost/kw/capacity 1/6th that USAs new nuclear power plants cost.
A State Capitalist economy like Chinas can and has directed capital, skills and resources toward becoming the global leader in electricity generation and the benefits of that trickle down to all Chinese consumers and businesses who enjoy electricity at prices less than half charged in all other developed economies.
Trump can get a quick fix of stolen black gold from Venezuela (but it will cost to get it delivered) but already the US energy sector is tragically behind that developed in China. Under current projected power demand from AI US consumers and businesses will face chronic rolling power cuts and blackouts in the years to come...and massive price hikes...all to fund an AI strategy that is highly speculative and far from guaranteed to deliver any tangible economic or strategic advantage.
