I posted previously about how Annas-Archive.org got taken down Annas-Archive.org no longer available.

Now it looks like the other domain that was still working (.se) has also been taken down. But Annas-archive.li is still working, though, and maybe others.

The working domains are apparently always listed on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna's_Archive.

Apparently all these take-downs are happening via a cloudflare subpoena: https://torrentfreak.com/publishing-giants-escalate-war-on-shadow-libraries-with-broad-cloudflare-subpoena/

I

wonder what the real reason for this is

Where are they announcing this info?

on their blog

It mostly got on their radar again because Anthropic leeched from there, trained LLMs, and now makes tons of moneys off their models that were trained on Elsevier-gatekept knowledge.

Is there a reason why we cannot run these types of metadata indexers in a distributed fashion?
