The e-mail login for stacker.news is awkward. It sends a link to my e-mail in order to complete the login. I do this from my laptop. But my e-mail client is on my mobile device. And to login to my e-mail from my laptop I must use a 2FA from a third device, which I may not even have with me.
Other services that use an e-mail as 2FA for login provide a code in an email, (e.g., 6 character string) and then prompt for the code. I prefer that as I can then get the code from my e-mail client on my mobile, and then type it into the browser on my laptop.
Think SN could improve that e-mail login with that? (Or, an option where the e-mail has both a link as well as a code that can be used to login to SN?)
reply
It certainly sounds awkward for your use case.
I think a better solution to this might be to allow multiple login methods for a single account which we already need to do for other reasons. That way if you have a login that's funky for one device, you can use one of the other logins on that device.
reply
That would be sufficient as well, for me.
But I can't be the only one that doesn't have e-mail from the same device as I'm using for accessing SN, maybe down the road re-consider this request.

Just watched this nice short bit on youtube of Ben Askren trying to orange-pill Ariel Helwani when asked about the new Marshall Rogan Inu ($MRI) shitcoin on the MMA hour. Thought he did a pretty good job trying to explain how these shitcoin pumps work by leveraging a good cause (fighter medical bills).

Twitter embeds are working properly again, I see. Can you share what the underlying issue was?
reply
It was a race condition. I render the twitter embed in a container of fixed size so there isn't layout shift. I then use an "onload" callback to determine when the iframe loads to detect if there's overflow. If there's overflow, I display the button to expand the container. It appears that the onload callback was being triggered before the content loaded in a way that would allow me to measure its height. The fix was just to assume that the container always has overflow (which it will) and always display the button following onload.

Just saw that the U.S CPI just printed 7.9%... Which got me thinking that the CPI is the biggest lie ever and is a false indicator of inflation... Inflation is going through roof just look at Chicago wheat futures up 60 % this year alone, Palm Oil 50 % and WTI crude up over 45 % YTD plus have you seen just how much your rent has increased in the past year ? Inflation most be between 20 to 50 % globally depending from which country you are from... I believe inflation will continue to raise as oil and food prices increase due to the war in Ukraine, soaring fertilizer costs, countries banning grain exports, supply chain issues & of cause devaluation of fiat currencies... Tough times ahead for the middle class and the poor...

Saying that inflation in the US is 7.9% is like saying that the temperature in the US is 68.3°F...
