Fast-food chain Steak ‘n Shake is rolling out a bitcoin bonus program for hourly workers, deepening its embrace of bitcoin just days after disclosing a $10 million bitcoin purchase for its corporate treasury.
Starting March 1, hourly employees at company-operated Steak ’n Shake locations will earn a bitcoin bonus worth $0.21 for every hour worked. The rewards will vest after two years, meaning workers must remain employed for that period before they can access the accumulated bitcoin.
The bonus is roughly equivalent to about 1% of the U.S. federal minimum wage and will be administered in partnership with Fold, a bitcoin rewards application.
I am glad Steak 'n Shake is doing this but having to wait two years to vest is not very self sovereign.
Pretty awesome. But it only affects hourly workers who stay with the company for 2 years, which I imagine affects only a small number of people.
I wonder what happen to the BTC if they do not vest. Does it revert back to Stack 'n Shake.
Its too bad they did not offer 210 sats/hour, but still seems like a pretty clever bonus from an employee retention perspective.
I also wonder, are they saving these in sats for you or do they convert at time of payout.
Its a nice move by Fold and gotta give them credit for finding unique opportunities to capture some attention!
