Can you scan it?
Can you click it?

No.

This is a payment link:

Can you scan it?
Can you click it?

Yes.

Wrong use of a LN invoice.
A LN invoice that in fact is a QR code it is used mostly face 2 face.
If is used in a browser, is also presented as a QR code.
I do not use to copy paste LN invoice codes, because it could end up wrong.
So your example with a LN string is a wrong assumption that people are using LN like that.
Any decent LN wallet will create a QR code to be scanned, so which is "your fix" into LN invoices?

reply

Yes, when you create an invoice on Club Orange or an other LN Wallet, you get a long string + a QR code. However if you share that QR code, the recipient usually needs a second device to scan it.

With a Payment Link, it just works no matter what:
• on mobile, tap Pay with Wallet
• on desktop, scan the QR code

No device juggling. No friction.

reply

Wrong again. Most of decent LN wallets already have the option to insert an image file with a QR and convert it into a payment request directly. No scan, no copy paste.

So you didn't "fix the LN invoice", you just create a link payment that is the same.

reply

Can you give me an example of a LN wallet that does that?

reply

Zeus. When is about to scan with camera, on top right you have the icon to insert any image file with a QR.

I think also Alby browser extension can be configured to open lnbc strings as LN invoices.
There are also multiple browser extension that can be configured to take a string and convert it into a hyperlink that open an app to pay something.

Like we have here on SN, any note from nostr it is automatically converted into a hyperlink.

You’re kind of making our point for us.

What you’re describing requires wallet-specific features, extensions, or configuration. With a Payment Link, there’s nothing to set up or explain, it’s just a link.

Links work everywhere by default. That’s the difference.

My point is that you didn't fix anything (as you said). You just create a link for something that already exist. A link that create the same thing you said you will fix it.

Is like saying I am fixing the wheels of a car, making it nicer and brighter. The wheel remain the wheel.

reply

Yes, invoices already exist. We’re making them universally shareable as a link and payable with one click. That’s the improvement.
