I tried Nostr but found out you don't really need to pay to post something, the zaps are optional. and I, in general dislike twitter style social media. so are there more sites like SN but for other kinds of content?

I don't know of any other sites like this. I think if you expand your question to include sites where users pay a membership fee to participate, there are quite a few. But it's not really the same as pay to post.
I'm curious why it's important to you that you need to pay to post?
