Greetings, SN community.Greetings, SN community.

I'm new to this platform, I'm still reading and trying to learn everything I can about it. I've found some very good guides that have helped me learn a little more about how things work, but these guides are from two or three years ago and a lot has changed since then, so they're a little out of date.

As a token of my appreciation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following users who created these great guides:

I also see that there are some beneficiaries in those posts, such as @DarthCoin, @ek, @nemo, and @nerd2ninja.

Why am I writing this post? Why am I writing this post?

I am writing this post, which is practically my first, to ask for help in resolving some questions I have. The first one has to do with this image:

In that image, I see a number 8 in one corner. At first, I thought they were notifications, but that's not the case. I think they're what they call CC or "Credits," but I have no idea how to withdraw them or how they actually work, since I have an associated LN wallet.

On the other hand, my second question, or rather a request, is that you please help me find more up-to-date guides so I can continue learning about SN. I don't know if I'm asking too much, but I'm really interested in this platform.

My next post will be my official introduction, so you can learn a little more about me, what I do, and how I got here.

I hope you have a good day.I hope you have a good day.

I'll shill my own article: #1035320

But the comment section of that post ended up being a spat about how longer posts will never get readers to read the whole thing because readers attention span is too cooked.

Meanwhile I write documentation for how to install a shiny new ML toy on an OS hardly anyone else uses: 2000 sats right off the bat. So idk anymore. Just write a post about something you're smart on, and if you're not smart on something lurk or get smart on something you enjoy learning about then write a post about what you learned.

The faq probably has answers to most of your questions: https://stacker.news/faq

Here's what it has to say about Cowboy Credits:

Stacker News never takes custody of stackers' money to send it to someone else.
To help new stackers get started without requiring them to attach a lightning wallet, stackers without an attached wallet will earn cowboy credits (CCs) when other stackers zap their content. Stacker News will accept CCs instead of sats for any payment on the site at a 1:1 ratio. This means new stackers can use these earned CCs to pay for posts, comments, zaps, jobs, boosts, donations or even territories but cannot withdraw them.

If you have an attached lightning wallet, you might still occasionally receive cowboy credits when users who do not have attached wallets zap you. You can use CCs to pay posting and comment fees.

Great, thank you very much.

From what I understand and what it says there, then those 8, which I now see are 66, can be used to pay for some interactions here, although I have a question, because if I have a connected career, they keep coming there.

In any case, I will review that section of frequently asked questions. Thank you very much for this valuable answer.

Amazing, welcome!

I can't recall having written much of a guide on them. Perhaps a few post complaining about the tech not working + the monetary use of a fake money/pre-paid credit like CC...

= best you can do is spend them via zaps, comments, or post creation -- and then receive real sats back via the rewards pool.
(It was much easier back in the day when SN used actual sats that were withdrawable on Lightning, and I think it's been well communicated that this noncustodial switch was terrible in all respects)

Either way, happy to have you here and glad you find some use from my ranting.

To be clear, actual sats are still used on Stacker News, in parallel with these credits that are used in lieu of sats when sats can't be used for various reasons.

Grumpily tangling hair is not exactly a virtue

Not hair splitting.

Bitcoiners who are committed to the protocol and its use and development want to use the protocol, not some shitcoin CCs substitute that was only introduced because of the threat of government crackdown on money transmitter pretext, and to enable newbies to engage until they could learn enough to get a wallet set up.

An attached wallet verifies you have taken the time and effort to match your Bitcoiner rhetoric with meaningful action and are not a big talk no walk hypocrit.

The intention has always been for SNs to be a P2P V4V sats denominated social media network demonstrating these principles of decentralised autonomy.

CCs were always a compromise introduced in the face of government threats...they inherently degrade the P2P sats denominated nature of the platform to the extent that some participants cannot be bothered attaching wallets.

Do not trust - Verify

reply

I understand, okay, although yes, I would prefer the actual SATS.

Thank you very much for this answer, my friend.

reply

Be careful to who you name "friend"

CC is cowboy credit. Which you can use to post and zap other users. And once you add wallet you can use to withdrawal them at anytime.

Welcome! Looking forward to your official introduction

Regarding your first question about the number in the corner of the image it sounds like it might represent a form of site specific credit or balance rather than notifications. On some platforms credits accrue through activity such as posting commenting or receiving tips and they can often be withdrawn or used within the site depending on the platform's rules. If this is the case here it is worth checking the help section or FAQ where withdrawal options and wallet connections are usually explained step by step.

For your request about updated guides you may want to search directly within the community for recent posts tagged with guide tutorial or how to as active members often publish their own walkthroughs when new features roll out. You could also reach out to some of the authors you mentioned as they might have already updated their material or can point you toward others who have.

Welcome

If you can attach a spending wallet you can send sats as well as receive them.

This is fundamental to the intent of SNs which is to enable a V4V P2P BTC/LN sats based social network.

By using sats more than CCs we strengthen the BTC/LN and the wallets that support them.

CCs were only ever introduced to avoid regulatory threats from government who could allege money transmission - CCs were intended only for those unable to attach wallets - as you have already attached a receiving wallet hopefully you can soon also attach a spending wallet and fully engage in the V4V P2P sats denominated nature of the community.

The need to spend sats (or CCs) to post, comment and zap other posts and comments is the V4V function.
If you like a post or comment you can show your appreciation of its value by zapping it...preferably with sats, but you need an attached spending wallet for that. If you lack a spending wallet you can only send CCs which are in house tokens used as an equivalent to sats.

If you have attached a spending wallet it is shown next to your name as a gun.
An attached receiving wallet is shown as a horse.
Best to get both!

Posts that are zapped a lot go up in listing order and those who posted them receive sats (and CCs) for their work.

It encourages worthwhile contributions and minimised time wasting trolls and spam.
All contributions cost at least 1 sat/CC.
