Phoenix is nice.
reply
Blues service was custodial so wallet of satoshi I guess lol, but breez and Phoenix are pretty cool. The onboarding fee for breez is lower than Phoenix tho.
reply
Wallet of Satoshi is the best for lightning. Getalby too.
reply
Both as custodial, better go non-custodial.
reply
I switched to Phoenix, liking the interface so far but I've had to pay the 3k sat new channel fee 4 times in 4 TXs 😮‍💨 not ideal
reply
My understanding (I'm not 100% on this) is that you should load up Phoenix with one big transaction for the max you would want to hold there. Then you just pay the fee once.
reply
Yes it's the same with Breez. Send the max you plan to receive and then send back most (but not all) of it, to have the channel with as much inbound as possible. Then you can receive.
If you plan to mostly send from the wallet, then of course keep enough to spend on it.
Both Phoenix and Breez are great non-custodial LN app. I prefer Breez for the PoS and lower fee but it's not by far.
reply
That makes sense 🙃now I know for next time
reply
Yeah, it's no so obvious for a first time strategy, but it seems to be best practice.
reply
Yes, it takes 10ksat to open a 0 conf channel with Phoenix, I'm pretty sure. After fees all of it can be spent, after which you have to refill the channel. It's not that much different with Breez, though they use entirely different but similar systems (one based on Eclair, the other based on LND)

Phoenix is best

Phoenix +1

I like, Breez. It has a slick interface, and you can create a point of sale to accept Bitcoin for purchases. Set-up fees are also reasonable.

Why people do not pay attention to the bluewallet team message? Or people really don't know how to use bluewallet? Unbelivable thr lack of knowledge...
reply
Why is the lack of knowledge unbelievable? You need to adjust your beliefs regarding other people's lack of knowledge. You're the king of lightning deep dives and you think others are supposed to be right on top of this? Why do you even post your content if other people don't need to learn?
reply
Why is the lack of knowledge unbelievable?
Because we were posting so many times here and in many other places all the explanations, but people seems to ignore all the guides and explanations and instead they pay more attention to shitcoin news and all other crap.
There's shit load of documentation out there about ALL wallets, apps, solutions, but NOBODY is reading them. Yes, keep watching useless debates on podcasts, on shit news instead of reading REAL documentation and guides. Or simply start yourself testing and learning about how to use ALL kind of Bitcoin apps.
reply
You sound bitter. Been there. But it’s so easy to miss some explain-all guide on the internet. We all read different shit, bro. I personally haven’t read up on your guides, so if I’m ignorant and frustrating to you then maybe you need a new perspective 🤦‍♂️

Not only is he being an omega asshole I don't even think he answers anything correctly, because he is assuming everyone wants to be sovereign citizens self hosting full nodes, or wont even be open to the conversation of an alternate more compatible solution.
He is a tragic personality trope. Literally a poster child of the "ackchyually" meme.
In order to continue USING blue wallet, you have to run lndhub which requires running a full bitcoin node with lnd, open channels, and self managed hot wallet to fund it.
If he was a human who wasn't completely bankrupt of empathy and trying to make Bitcoin and Stacker News his entire identity like some dipshit way too into sports or politics he may be capable of providing an accurate answer.
But alas, here we are.
So, to continue using Blue you will have to go down the path of self custody or connecting to a lndhub provider.
Otherwise, you will want to look into other wallets such as Muun or Wallet of Satoshi. Phoenix is also an option.
I would probably suggest Muun. Its as easy to use as Blue if you're not looking to dive deep into running your own node but honestly they are all great wallets and I suggest maybe just throwing a tiny amount of sats in each and giving them a spin to see which ones fit your personal nuances a little more.
I personally went down the path of setting up my lightning node. It is really fun to learn! One of the biggest problems I ran into though is most nodes you try to open channels with want you to have 0.005 BTC in the channel minimum, which is not what I am looking to do if I want to open a channel and buy a $20 dollar gift card.
I would like to be able to open much smaller channels. Which brings me to my final point. Not everyone even has the financial means to keep channels funded or even meet minimum funding requirements when they had just been using Blue to interact with the lightning network in small amounts in the first place.
Darth is tone deaf as fuck.
I didn't make this post, I just commented on the thread saying that some of us need help, that's all.

I would love to hear your answer to my actual question. What's the TL;DR: on Phoenix v breez? (I know you hate Muun)
reply
For me the ideal lightning wallet is your own independent node. However as a mobile-only solution I would go with Phoenix. Lightning bitcoin basically is software that runs on top of bitcoin, which are called lightning implementations. There are many (CLN, LND, Eclair, Spiral, etc). The non-custodial 100% mobile wallets that I know are Blixt, Breez and Phoenix. The first 2 run LND while Phoenix runs Eclair. Now considering that we want bitcoin as stable and decentralized as possible, but also we want Lightning to innovate, I believe the less concentration of an implementation the better. That is why I prefer Phoenix since it does not rely on LND. Also, I have read Acinq (the developers of Eclair) have developed a mobile-dedicated lightning client on Kotlin (Eclair was written in Scala, designed for large routing nodes), and they used the Kotlin Multiplatform tech to produce both the Ios and android Apps (the android version is still not released in this version). That is what I call innovation. So far I have not heard of another mobile-dedicated lightning client. But all this criteria is very philosophical, and not so much UX-ish.

I use either Blixt or Zeus.

Wait, what's with Blue wallet? Is it dying? Only the custodial Lightning wallet or the whole app?
reply
bluewallet is ditching their custodial lightning wallet service based off their 'lndhub' tech. lndhub will remain available for self-hosting, but bluewallet won't be your host.
the bluewallet app will continue to be serviced with a self-custody focus, e.g., on-chain wallets and you hosting your own lndhub for lightning wallets.
reply
I like Wallet of Satoshi for ease of use. Still trying to wrap my head around custodial vs self-custodial for Lightning and what it means. Breez appears to be self-custodial, but you do not have to run a node?
reply
Android? Use obw it has hosted channels functionality which is a nice compromise between privacy and custodial
But it's probably not easy to set up for a noob and also the few hosted channel providers has to be trusted
reply
Wallet of Satoshi has the best and easiest onboarding experience imo
reply
OBW and Blixt give the option to mix custodial (hosted channels / dunder lsp) and non-custodial and are full nodes on you phone.
Zeus is another nice option, you can use it with your private node and/or with custodial ones, like @calle https://t.me/lightningtipbot or LNbits via LndHub extension.
