Ironic that I see this topic on polar bears today. Ironic because a bear thought came to my mind last night, or was it early this morning?
The state of Florida has black bears. It's an old story: there are bears, too few bears, endangered bears, there are bear protections, bears make a comeback, now lots of bears, lots of neighborhoods, bears near neighborhoods, bears in the 'hood, nuisance bears, too many damn bears, too little habitat and food for bears, some bears are starving due to the numbers game, others are rummaging your trash bins to survive (unhealthily), let's have a bear hunt and reduce the numbers to a balanced level. To that end, Florida had a small bear hunt this year. 52 bears "harvested" in the bear hunt. Yes, only 52, not 520, not 5,200. 52 bears.
The bear hunt caused a big ruckus of protest by the bear-lifers.
What got me to thinking is that, what if the bear-thinner-outers went about it this way: "There are too many bears. Bears are suffering. We need to identify pregnant she-bears, then abort unborn bears in the womb. That way, it will be best for the mama bear and her life going forward as well as the greater bear population as a whole. It's the humane thing to do."
I can only imagine how bonkers the bear-life crowd would go talking about bear abortion. And yet, when it comes to humans...
Expecting logic and reasoning from people is a bit much....
