This is funny to me.
People are mad at the "free grocery" that popped up because it ran out of supplies, gasp and shock! This is not a Mamdani-related store (aside from his promises), but he doesn't look good here because it's like, "Wait, you mean free grocery stores aren't economically viable?"
Meanwhile, Polymarket is playing the players. They're trying to ride the "free grocery" hype and to garner a more favorable image with regulators (though evidently they're not scoring points with the people...you just can never give away enough free stuff). So, Polymarket is making money with prediction markets, buying food to give away labeled as "free", and hopefully earning good-neighbor points with regulators so it can continue to operate and make money.
To go 4D-chess meta level, Polymarket should open a market for "Will the first Mamdani free grocery last at least 3 months before shuddering?"
Hope they learned their lesson to stop thinking about price and start thinking about quantity
Totally
Seems they're gonna need to line up a lot more free suppliers. Demand just may be infinite.
I'm sure the suppliers are lining up, can't wait to ink deals to be the exclusive free wholesale supplier. Probably building new warehouses just for this purpose.
