Amazon engineers followed the advice of an AI assistant and "took down" AWS.

In December, Kiro, an AI bot developed by Amazon, suggested that the company's engineers delete and recreate the environment. They didn't argue and allowed it to proceed. Eventually, something went wrong, and AWS services were down for 13 hours.

Amazon acknowledges that the incident was caused by human error: the engineer who authorized Kiro to make changes had too broad a privilege. To prevent a recurrence, they have implemented additional staff training and strengthened security measures.
