How is stacker news financed? Is it turning a profit? Is it financed by the posting payments only?

I believe that haters also contribute significantly to SN's funding. When they downvote, 😅 I assume that the SATS they pay to do that go to SN.

The territory owners pay Stacker News. There's no cut from posting or zapping.

I doubt they're turning a profit.

In addition to the comment about territory fees, you might be interested in looking at some of the daily rewards distributions:

https://stacker.news/rewards - this link [from the footer] is always the pie chart accumulating in the current day

https://stacker.news/rewards/2026-02-28 - suffixing a date to the end shows the accumulation that was distributed that day
