As part of constructing and mining their own block using DATUM, they also signaled readiness for activation of a soft fork.
They did this entirely independently of their pool.
OCEAN is designed such that miners can perform the full spectrum of mining, and actually take a direct role in coordinating network upgrades. That includes constructing their own block templates and deciding when, and whether, to signal.
OCEAN takes that one step further by reducing the pool’s role even more. Through DATUM, miners construct their own templates and embed their own signal directly in the blocks they mine. Further still - any blocks they find get broadcast directly to the network without needing to pass through a middle man.
Fork proposals are part of Bitcoin’s maturation. We encourage miners to study BIP-110, form their own view, and signal accordingly.
Yeah, from what I gather it is Barefoot Mining Company, a large and early investor in Ocean, successfully found a block using their own block template within Ocean's mining pool.
Kratter just messed his pants I'm sure... His monday morning video is going to be more excited than when he is obsessing about kiddie porn and Gloria Zhao's sex life.
Makes sense it would be an Ocean miner. Not Ocean proper though right? Just a miner on Ocean that was constructing its own templates.
I get a little confused on this point. The miner is Bob Burnett's Barefoot Mining but they point their hash at OCEAN's pool.

And so it beeeegins!
I have huge respect for Bob Burnett (find him on x and YouTube as founder of barefoot) however I honestly do not support bip110.
I hope they know what they are doing.
Love when miners actually use block signaling to express a stance. That’s Bitcoin governance in action.
Excellent! bip110.org
