pull down to refresh

A couple of months ago, my father passed away. I feel content with the life we shared and the experiences we had together.

Before his death, he underwent emergency surgery and had a colostomy. In simpler terms, he was left with a bag attached to his abdomen, which was uncomfortable for him and for us as his children.

The thing is, one Saturday afternoon he went out to the backyard, which is very close to some soccer fields where the neighborhood kids play every afternoon.

I heard the back door open, but I assumed he was going to sit under the trees as usual. To our surprise, for no apparent reason—because I must confess he was quite lazy when it came to walking long distances—he walked to the soccer field where several people were playing and was hit by a ball that broke his hip and left him bedridden. From that day on, his body simply suffered unbearable pain until he passed away.

Now I wonder, what was really going through his mind? which made him go all the way to where the soccer game was and, without any caution, cross the middle of the field...

I still really don't understand...

Probably his mind was failing too -- gut health affects the brain, as well as cancer treatment (especially chemo).

Do everything possible not to end up alive but with no life left.

Great quote!

"Do everything you can to avoid ending up alive but lifeless."
