The NBA playoffs begin next week and this year I'm trying out a new contest format that blends the old survivor format with a points challenge dynamic:

  • Each round pick one team to advance and, after the Play-In, also how many games the series will go
  • You can only pick each team once
  • Points earned will equal the playoff seed of the team selected
  • Getting the series length correct will double your points for that round
  • Reward 10k sats zapped to the victor

Unlike a survivor pool, you aren't eliminated for getting a pick wrong.

There is no series-length bonus for the Play-In.

Once the standings are set, I'll make the post for our first picks.

Let me know if you're interested in joining the contest.

I’ll try it out

This contest has no buy-in

I decided that keeping track of the pot is usually more annoying than it's worth

reply

I didn’t find buy ins that hard to track when I ran one contest. but I also didn’t track the zaps per post as part of the pot, just buy ins

reply

Yeah, just buy-ins are fine. There's also the issue that NBA contests don't attract as many participants and I don't want to discourage anyone from joining.

Yes and you can take note of my finals pick

Celtics in 6

You can make your Play In pick here

Clippers, Kawhi will show up

Woo hoo. More contests!

I am in.

Embiid has appendicitis. Raptors might hold on to the 6 seed. Might.

reply

They also need to stay ahead of the Magic and Hornets

reply

They need to win 2 of last 3 and I think they will be fine. They have the tiebreaker over the Magic.

They also have the tiebreaker with the Hawks.

Heat
Knicks
Nets

Hopefully 1/3 is good enough

reply

1 win might get it done but 2 would be better.

reply

There's 1.
