Unfortunately, this cultural experience is nothing new online. Most well-established communities in the digital world give their rookies a ton of crap and little help. A few counter this, and even here, some of have been great guides on just how to get started. However, the common attitude is that if you're serious, you'll find the information on your own and work your way up to an experienced person in the community. It takes time; I've seen this play out repeatedly on Discord in different servers. Same on Reddit and so on.
