There's an element of scientific discovery. But part of technological advancement involves developing into the kind of person/society that is capable of engaging with reality in a way that is conducive to the persistence of life. In other words, extending a human lifespan from 40 to 100 is similar to the process by which we extend it to 300 and beyond, or resurrect the dead.
I am sure there is a way to extend or even resurrect humans. The thing that makes use tick is the electrical impulses throughout our bodies. we are walking organic nodes and our life is all within the energy that gives us our souls.
