Why do people spend so much sats to downzap a single post (and others) instead of zaping other good stuff around SN posts?
Why are you trying to shut down other people’s voices?
“On one hand, as Bitcoiners, you talk about freedom, about being people who aren’t afraid to speak the truth. But on the other hand, you don’t let others speak or share their opinions freely here. Why? Why are you afraid of other people’s views on the war?”
Why don’t you simply ignore their opinions or bring counterarguments into the discussion?
I'm just asking for a friend. 😉
P.s. Please, don't downzap this post. Spend your sats on other good posts, ones that are already written or will be posted. I’m just putting a few questions out there. Give me some good answers instead of downzapping.
Another detail to note here is that this post has been boosted more than 300k sats.
It was posted on 2 April and i know that ive seen it on the front page a bunch.
Another way to tell the story is that the author boosts it back to the front page repeatedly, and stackers get tired of seeing it, so they downzap so they can see other things appear on the front page.
But then the author boosts it again et voila it is the most downzapped posts, but also one of the most boosted posts.
I wasn't following the saga of this post. Money is a hell of a moderator.
Yeah, it's not about the content, I don't think.
I think it is. I was almost never downzapped, until I started posting content about the Charlie Kirk assassination, Israel, and the Iran war.
I also never had my posts disappear off the front page instantly, because somebody did a massive downzap, until I started writing on these topics.
Fair points. But to be clear: taking away downzaps doesn't necessarily fix this: in a web of trust model, if a user doesn't happen to be already highly trusted by other users, couldn't a similar dynamic occur?
In such a situation, wouldn't you just lack visibility until a trusted person zapped you?
Absent downzaps, there would be no way to nuke content.
It's not entirely unrelated either. I doubt most boosted posts would receive as many downzaps.
Same ... Quite crazy
I have already explained why I continued to boost the post.
Perhaps you missed that?
It is because until a few weeks ago I had never heard of The Greater Israel Project.
When I did come across it I thought 'this is probably a conspiracy theory, surely?!'
So I put it out there to see what the reaction would be- stackers collective knowledge and freedom of speech on SNs might know more about it and be able to show if it just another conspiracy theory, or confirm it.
The response was nobody refuted that it was real, some quoted biblical passages which are supposedly the religious belief origin and basis of The Greater Israel Project'.
At the same time somebody seemed determined to remove the post- so I responded thinking there is perhaps something to this TGIP but it is too sensitive for some to allow it to be discussed....so there is all the more need for it to be known and discussed!
I am still not certain how much truth there is in TGIP (it seems like there is at least some) but it would explain a lot about the entire shitshow that seems to go on endlessly in the middle east all my life and if it could explain the Israeli motives and be known more widely known then at least people might have a better understanding of the problem.
If Israelis really believe they were promised this huge region by God then that surely would explain a lot that I and probably most of humanity cannot understand otherwise.
Bitcoin is money and bad actors use money too.
The bulk of what’s getting downzapped right now are posts critical of the actions of one particular small theocratic ethnostate in the Middle East. I imagine it’s related to how criticism of that particular government is also suppressed on every other media platform.
I only downzap bots and max it at 100 sats. Usually it's a lot less.
It's kinda interesting to see this experiment play out. If the content us good enough it should make it's way above the downzapping.
I’ll be honest. I’m one of the more consistently downzapped posters here.
Most of my posts are sourced and mechanism-focused.
So I’d actually like to hear from someone who downzaps:
What’s the signal you’re sending?
Because if it’s disagreement, I’d rather see the counterargument than just the zap.
What you describe is not censorship at all, is completely legitimate, perfectly in accordance with freedom principles, and also, you're asking the wrong questions.
If people are spending money to downzap you, it means they find the content so distracting or low quality that they'd rather lose money than see it trend
I read this like
youyour friend is caring a lot about what other people think. And that begs the question, whydo youdoes your friend care what other people think? The way I see it, downzaps aren't something I should be looking at, and I don't.
I downzap bots, but I try to make sure they are bots.
In the case of the post you list above, I think it is entirely personal. @Solomonsatoshi acted like an ass by downzapping everyone on the site who he didnt think was a "real" bitcoiner back in January and February and now others are angry at him. I find it humorous that he's complaining about it. Short memory, I guess.
I hear future models will have better memories
Many anti war posts are being downzapped heavily - not just mine.
Yes I did downzap previously because some specific stackers repeatedly refused to engage in reasoned dialogue on the topic of attached wallets. Perhaps that was a mistake but I felt the issue was important, and still do actually but I never concealed my reason for downzapping...I made it perfectly clear and up front.
So I was called a CCP bot and all manner of names but nearly all attempts to engage in reasoned dialogue were evaded.
I was met by a concerted trolling campaign to attack me personally and avoid the issues raised.
The pro war downzapper in contrast has not given any reason for their actions- they have not made any reasoned arguments for what they are doing, they have deliberately concealed their identity.
It is natural that those wanting to raise the subject of the war and have a reasoned dialogue on the topic will wonder who is so determined to silence and discussion of the matter.
This naturally puts those who have openly contributed views in favour of the war under scrutiny and suspicion - so the deliberately concealed downzapper is causing others to be suspected of the downzapping - while the downzapper himself is too gutless to come out and say who they are and why they are downzapping any post about the war.
It seems other stackers feel you are repeatedly refusing to engage in reasoned dialog by posting the same copy paste comments everywhere.
You thought it was fine when you were doing it and when someone else does it you cry about it. Pure hypocrisy.
I was always open that it was me downzapping and why I was downzapping.
The person downzapping war posts is not.
That puts others who have made pro war comments under a cloud of suspicion.
The downzapper is a dishonest coward, hiding behind a concealed nym, lacking the courage to own or explain their actions.
I offered to give @denlillaapan 10,000 sats if he will show his SN wallet recent history graph to show its not him.
Nothing to hide nothing to fear.
His TOP stats are concealed...that is his choice.
10,000 free sats up for grabs.
His response was silence.
