pull down to refresh

Hi frens,

I’m ridiculously excited about this build 👾 I’ve been eyeing this project for a while but never felt confident enough to actually go for it… until now.
With a lot of help from my husband @roist (who handled the serious soldering work 💪) and me taking care of the RetroPie setup and ROMs, we finally pulled it off.

For parts, I grabbed this from AliExpress:

And this from Etsy:

Clearly, everything went through a very rigorous QA process. Overall I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Specs-wise, I used a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. The trickiest parts were soldering, drilling the button holes in the shell, and getting the Pi connected to Wi-Fi. Definitely a learning experience.

That said, QA did miss a couple of scratches on the shell and screen, so I’ll probably swap those out. We’re also planning to add a proper battery that fits the Game Boy form factor.

Still, for a weekend spent learning where (and why) to solder, while looping Pokémon soundtracks and some lo-fi… I couldn’t be happier with the result.

I’ll post an update once it’s fully polished, but for now, I’m off to play a bit

suck it Nintendo
