pull down to refresh

Hello frens, how are you? Hopefully cozy and comfy as much as possible. On my end, I’m okey-dokey, I love cartoons and I’ve got some thoughts.

A couple of years ago I readThe Boyscomics, so good. I started them because of the show, but I actually finished the comics some time ago. And the show has really drifted away from the source. No problem with that, I don’t mind new characters or story arcs if they serve a purpose and are well written. But honestly, it feels like it’s gotten worse with each season.

This last one even had moments where characters were finishing each other’s sentences like in a Marvel movie… kinda sad, because the actors are clearly capable of so much more. The characters feel like shadows of what they were. Maybe the show became too aware of its own success and leaned into that in a way that got a bit annoying.

I honestly wish they had stuck with the more nonsensical, over-the-top storytelling of the comics, that chaotic energy works there and could have worked here too. The comics know exactly what they are and fully commit. The supes are awful, truly awful, and the story just goes with it unapologetically.

I get that they weren’t going to adapt everything (like Herogasm exactly as in the comics, or some of the darker Starlight stuff), but if they were aiming for shock value and grotesque scenes anyway, they could’ve pulled more from the source or at least matched that level of storytelling.

If you like the show, that’s awesome, no shade at all. Just… give the comics a chance too.

Now, Invincible. I’ve only watched the show (haven’t read the comics yet), and dear goodness… I’m craving more. I loved it, loved it, loved it.

The characters are so well developed, and the story feels tight and intentional. Even the villains, some are straight-up psychopaths but they’re still given depth and context.

Take Debbie (Invincible’s mom). It would’ve been so easy to make her just “the mom” or “Omni-Man’s wife,” but she has real depth, her own struggles, her own life. It’s so well done.

And Mark, he gets absolutely wrecked over and over, and you really see that being “invincible” isn’t just about strength. It’s resilience. It’s also the people around him: his village. Nothing is purely black and white. He’s a good guy, but not flawless. He owns his mistakes, and that accountability makes him feel real.

That said… that last episode this season was kind of a bummer. It felt like a whole lot of nothing happened. I was really looking forward to it. But hey, we’ll see where it goes.

And last but not least… ADVENTURE TIMEEEEEE

I wasn’t into it at first, but I gave it a chance and now I’m hooked. I’m always singing the intro and dropping random lines here and there hehe. My husband even got me a Lumpy Space Princess and a Peppermint Butler pin 🥹

I even got teary during the finale. I loved everyone’s story. One of my favorite episodes is definitely Power Animal. I watched it in Spanish (🇪🇸 dub), and Finn saying “que corra el aire, chaval” still is one of my favourite lines.

And of course: JAAAAAAAMES BAXTER hahaha ese tío sí que se lo monta.

I love all the little things: Finn carrying Jake in his pocket, BMO and those tiny hands but as you can probably tell… I love Peppermint Butler the most. Loyal, smart… you don’t find that combo very often these days.

So there you go. I just felt like writing it out, and that’s about it. If you have anything to add, I’d love to hear it.

Take care frens and see you soOoOon

I tried to zap this post many times without success. I will keep trying.
