Ah, but it is sometimes unclear how to pursue "whatever they are interested in."

We homeschool our kids and I am doing my best to encourage them to pursue the things that interest them, but it is surprisingly difficult to help them go deep on something that is also useful. Maybe I shouldn't put too many bounds on it, but children do seem to be a little like weathervanes: they just turn whichever way the wind blows. 

I think that it is more like I want to encourage them to pursue fulfilling whatever need they recognize in the world.

The 20+ years spent in school learning about nonsense were the ones that pissed me off the most. Imagine if people got to learn whatever they are interested in with all those time, how much more human potential could be unlocked?
