I've made mistakes like these so many times and still ended up having close games that I've actually come to enjoy the uphill battle.

I think it's the psychological aspect of it: the opponent thinks they have the upper hand, but I'm just waiting for them to get too confident and make a mistake as well. For example, later on I was able to fork his queen with my knight, see
