Hey guys

As many of you may have noticed, Bitnodes.io has gone offline. For those unfamiliar, it was essentially the go-to service for tracking reachable nodes on the Bitcoin network one of a kind, and one that we at SatoshiDashboard relied on directly to display up-to-date metrics.

It appears the project was maintained largely by a single person (Addy Yeow). The domain expired on May 3, 2026, and the site had been experiencing issues since March. There's been no official statement, so at this point we don't know whether this is a permanent shutdown or just a temporary situation.

What's clear is that it left a real gap: multiple sites across the Bitcoin ecosystem that depended on its API have had frozen node counts since late April.

Bitnodes is open source. It can technically be redeployed. So we wanted to put this question out there: would anyone be interested in pooling a small community fund to spin up our own instance, maintained by and for the community, through SatoshiDashboard?

We're not talking about big numbers just enough to cover a cloud server and keep it running and accessible for everyone. If there's enough interest, we'll make it happen.

Who's in? 🙋

I'm working on something similar that could replace it

Great, let's get in touch, I'm not such a good programmer so I don't know if I'll help you with the code but I would like to be nearby supporting in favor of open source. https://discord.gg/f3wwRBAZw
