Some people read books in search of the knowledge of those who wrote them.
Some read them looking for answers to their own questions, while others read in order to confirm their own sense of superiority.

There are people who read because they have no other way to measure the distance from real life.
Others read because, within the pages, in the shapes of the letters and the sentences, they trace the signs of a soul that longed for life and never found it.

There are many reasons, I suppose, why people read books.

Some books, in fact, cannot be read by everyone

Why do you read?

Whenever I hear the saying “curiosity killed the cat.” Yeah, that is complete and utter bullshit if you swear by something as stupid as that.

If you prevent your mind from expanding and that curious part of yourself dies, you eventually will too. Something as important as engaging the mind by reading is important, be it for pleasure and imagination, informative or thought provoking purposes. It brings new perspectives and experiences to your life, and this is why I continuously do it.

Because when all the work is done, I feel there is rarely a better activity I can be doing.

Before we all had devices, books were one of the few ways to travel spacetime. Now, it is taken for granted because the experience is so diluted.

to engage deeply and fully (undistracted, no screens or pop-ups or click-away) with the seriously considered and researched ideas of another

reply

I read because I love immersing myself in stories, learning more, and discovering new perspectives

to find myself

For the escape, the wonder, and the occasional moment of feeling truly alive.

I read nonfiction to get knowledge and expand my understanding of different subjects. I read fiction to get lost in the wild and interesting worlds created by the authors. Reading gives my body time to rest wild my mind goes on a journey. That’s why I read books.

I mainly read because I'm interested in the subject or want to learn about something.

Because in books I can slow down time and actually think. Reality rarely gives me that luxury.
