I think this is a good comparison. Pitchers are so good now the odds or getting 4 or 5 hits in an inning to score a few runs is less likely than getting a guy on with a hit or a walk and someone hitting a home run.

Truth is, I don't know much about baseball. Is this anything like how the NBA has gravitated towards 3s and the midrange jumper has died out? Like did teams learn that slugging mathematically generates higher returns?
