I assume it's mostly a thing when you are committing regularly (which I do not do). I end up with one huge commit most of the time.
I use it a lot when auto squashing fixup commits, which depends on having multiple commits to squash into.
it definitely helps point out when you muddy the waters on commits, when things should be broken up.

Was supposed to mark 30+ formal emails today, but just couldn’t get into the spirit of things.
Honoured an agreement I had made with a colleague. Had brunch at Flaming Mangoes instead.
A stone’s throw from my school, it was an unobtrusive and quiet hole-in-the-wall restaurant nestled amidst landed properties. It was an energy spot in which I forgot that I was in noisy, congested Singapore and concentrated on hearing my colleague talk.
