I'm actually running 3 versions. I'm using Zorin for a database/GIS machine/business data machine I have, Ubuntu 24 LTS for everything general, Fedora for my art/website machine (dumped Ubuntu Studio), and I have two Windows 11 machines (one server, one general). My home office desk looks like a dispatch center, LOL. And, just to add to the mix, I use Macbook for my portable.
ZorinOS bring to life two of my old macmini. It's workin' pretty good.
I've settled on t2-linux w/ nixos. But I must admit, getting LUKS to work with nixos was a bit of a horror - had to redo it 4 times - and I'm not fully charmed by the way how I system update. But, it works. Which is great. Maybe I'll try the gentoo overlay some day.
Impressive. It's harder than people think. A good amount of distros are Ubuntu-based. Debian and Fedora are the two immediately that don't use their sources from my experience.
Ubuntu is Debian-based, so that's correct. Fedora is nowadays basically the FOSS staging area for RHEL, so that is truly different from Debian/Ubuntu.
That's a crazy chart. I even found one that I have an old administrator's manual for, SUSE. It's like 2 inches thick. Goodwill stores are great for finding old tech manuals for stuff really cheap. I discovered a DOS manual for $5 that I then sold to someone in Maine for $100. ROFL.
Nice article. So, you're sticking with Fedora? I don't mind it, its served me well for a decade or so.
I need something to install on my 2020 final Intel Macbook because that is EOL now. The main issue I run into is that none of the installers recognize the keyboard 😂
