If you ever wanted to know what software was like in the 1990s, load up a VM with linux Debian 13. It's very nostalgic in feel. I used UTM on a macbook and then upgraded the standard Debian 11 to 13.5. Took a bit of finetuning, but it's a fun time machine trip back a few decades in UX feeling.

I've always wondered if he survived to know what an icon he became or if they just executed him right after this.
I didn't know that today was the anniversary. Just last night, my wife and I went to a bowling alley to do music trivia. I remember that a few years back I had seen on the wall a newspaper article in which the bowling alley was featured. But the newspaper feature was from the time of the Tiananmen Square massacre and there were all of these interviews with people in our community about it on the side of the page. It was really interesting reading all of these people's opinions right at the time of the event.
Alas, when I went to show my wife the wall hanging, it had finally been replaced by something newer. I always search for things that shed light on history simply because they've been neglected. It's like being a lay archeologist, but it also just feels tragic when people finally get around to cleaning up.

Today was the first day of Protected Time. You would have thought that I would feel exhilarated, but strangely, my heart feels a bit heavier than in term time. And this is not owing to the fact that I still need to come up with Term 3 Spelling list as well as mark the graduating classâs compositions.
Recent events â including the Parent Teacher Meeting and Excellence 2000 workshop â have impressed upon me the ginormous task it is to raise a child. I am now keenly aware that I would need to add physical writing of Chinese characters and inquiry-based activities onto my overflowing plate. I cannot simply ensure that he is engaged with KooBits and Ezhishi and flatter myself for doing a great job. There are other aspects that I cannot neglect.
I think the multifaceted, complicated nature of modern parenting has yet to be discussed satisfactorily in our national narrative. Why do people want to be child-free? The question should be: why would people want to risk being parents? I doubt my parents had it so tough.
