A couple industrious young men (around 16 yrs old) came to the door today and asked if I was interested in having my garbage, recycling and organic waste bins cleaned. It's a good day to solicit business because our garbage pick up is on Wednesdays.
I asked them a few questions about their process and price and how I could pay. They said "cash or etransfer" and I asked "will you take Bitcoin?"
One of the young men said "we don't have that".
So I made them a deal. If they figure out how to get themselves a Bitcoin wallet by next Thursday I will have them clean all three bins and pay them in Bitcoin.
Let's see what happens next week.
Can't wait to hear how this plays out!
I will post an update next week
I think your proposition is tempting. You did say all three bins, not just one
Nice! I like it
No hand holding. No advice. Figure it out and I will give you business. If they come back with a wallet. I am sure it will be something stupid like crypto.com or coinbase then I will give them a little advice.
good on you
we don’t have organic waste bins. is that a Canada thing?
Yes, we have weekly organic waste pick up. Anything that you could compost. You have to buy biodegradable bags to put the stuff in. It's good but kind of a pain. I mostly put bags of dog poop in it. Haha
I'll be curious to see how motivated they are to accept it.
I have faith in them. They are clearly motivated enough to come up with a little business idea, get the tools they need (it's not much but still a barrier to entry they have to hurdle) and make the time and effort to go door to door trying to sell their services. I really would like to give them some business I appreciate the gumption. Hopefully they figure out how to take my precious sats from me. Otherwise I might have to make the offer to my son.
Awesome, totally unscripted! You gotta find a workaround if they can't set up a wallet. Maybe a custodial setup isn't a bad call for newbies
I am sure they will have a trash wallet like coinbase when they comeback. But that's fine. Everyone starts somewhere.
I know you can send over LN on Coinbase, but I’m not sure if you can receive yet.
Not sure. haven’t used Coinbase in 5 years.
Good call. I will try this, and name it the grayruby push.
Nudge.
That's awesome.
Haha way to go I need to use that
A great way to introduce an entrepreneur to Bitcoin âš¡. Bitcoin adoption is something that will happen sooner or later, have no doubt about that.
We shouldn't wait for adoption; we need to incentivize the use of Bitcoin. Good work, looking forward to the next chapter.
Amazing orange-pilling (...for a boomer!)
Haha. I only feel like a boomer.
This might be the most creative Bitcoin onboarding program I've ever seen.
Those kids knocked on your door looking for dirty garbage bins and accidentally found themselves in a crash course on the future of money. 😂
If they come back next week with a Bitcoin wallet set up, you'll have cleaned more than your bins — you'll have cleaned up the fiat-only mindset of the next generation.
