I know it's too early to give a proper diagnosis but we can do this exercise to comment what we have seen right up to now in the World Cup.

France looks terrific. Mbappé looks sharp, as Olisé too. Then we have Barcola, Dembele and Doue. We have to consider that they played against Senegal, the recent African Cup winners.
Then, following close Messi's Argentina dealt easily with Algeria. We need to see them against a better team but they look great. A bit of a shadow as Messi could have been sent off after hitting the calf of a rival but the VAR did not intervene.
England looks different this time. There has been a big controversy regarding some players that have stayed at home, such as Fowden and Palmer, but the reality is that they played great against Croatia and they have so many options that they are a good candidate for winning the Cup.
Germany sorted out their match against Curaçao with a clear 7-1 but we may need to see them against a better team to measure it.
LosersLosers
The biggest disappointment in this first round is Spain, no doubts. A slow pace during the entire match. Players such as Gavi and Ferran not sure what they were doing in the pitch. Passing the ball from left to right without any other intention. Not playing with wings makes them very predictable. I know that both wingers are coming out from injuries, but there are other options in the bench that can help.
One or two steps higher is Portugal. I would be thrilled to watch such a talented team without Cristiano. I am sure they can play much better than what we watched.
I was unsure to include here Brazil as they played against a tough team such as Morocco. Not very inspiring their first match but it's true that they were in front of a great team. The match was a bit boring and just the quality of Vinicius helped them to equalize it. We need to see more from them.

Clearly USA was a surprise. A 4-1 win against Paraguay is a good start. They are one of the host which is always an advantage in the World Cup to reach last rounds.
Norway is another one to watch with Haaland , Odegaard, Sorloth and a good goalkeeper.
Finally, Morocco was able to stop Brazil and is another one to follow in the next rounds.
Any other team that I am missing ??
Today starts the second round in the Group Phase. Hope you enjoy!
Great recap of the first set of games. I am sure Spain will bounce back.
And I'm not sure Brasil is bouncing back, maybe they make it clear losers with the performance against Haiti.
That should be a clear win!
Just praying for it!
Stunned with Portugal's performance
Me too! Though they have got plenty of room for improvement.
