Newbies don't care about finding bugs. They expect the app to work in mainnet (ideally testnet too). The issue is that most of the time apps fail, and users feel they did something wrong, when instead it is not the case.
Testnet LN network is not comparable, I know. However, I continue saying it is useful for learning purposes.

For a dev testnet yes is useful, in the initial phase of developing.
But as a user tester it doesn-t make too much sense,. mostly because you MUST test LN mechanisms in real use case to find real bugs.
