British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday he is stepping down as leader of the governing Labour Party and will leave office within weeks, scarcely two years after being elected in a landslide.
Starmer says he will remain caretaker prime minister until a new Labour leader is chosen by the party.
Starmer made the announcement after facing growing pressure to hand over to a new leader who can try and revive the government's flagging fortunes.
Starmer spent the weekend pondering his future following Burnham' victory last week in a special election for a seat in Parliament. Burnham ran with the aim of challenging Starmer for leadership of the party and the country.
I like the clueless look in his eye in the photo.
Was it the under 16 social media ban that tipped him over the scales into resignation? I hope so (although I don't pay enough attention to the brits t know).
Probably didn't help
Nah, that was brewing ever since a backbencher, Catherine West, threatened to challenge him in early May if none of the big players would. That was after some horrid local election results.
At that time, Burnham didn't have a seat and, therefore, wasn't able to challenge Starmer. West backed down when it became likely they'd give Burnham a chance to run for a seat so he can then challenge Starmer instead of her.

fuck that inbred nosferatu wannabe
No one believes these interchangeable puppets matter anymore. The agenda stays the same.
Another PM for the UK. AB should be a steady pair of hands but he probably needs to go to the polls within 12 months.
