If you believe in Stacker News territories and SN is your forever home, times like these give you the opportunity to lock in your territory for life at a reduced fiat price.
Just saying..

reduced fiat price, but for those of us that are earning in sats, we're seeing our purchasing power diminish, and therefore these are times for extra austerity.
I know, and much respect for that. Personally I am living on bitcoin more than ever before, though I still have a ways to go, so no new territories for me.
When I transact with foreign entities that are based in hostile jurisdictions they often demand their shitcoins. I don't know what is wrong with these people... Haha
Don’t temp me! I was just thinking of dropping a Milly on history then buying it next year
I was laying in bed thinking the same thing this morning. Just paid up for the year. Thanks for the reminder!
I hoped somebody was in a position to take advantage.
warning: joke in arguably bad taste
One of my last popular posts on Facebook, after the quip won excellent responses from the live test audience of my cadre, was: "If you see a soldier sleeping, do not wake him; perhaps he dreams of freedom..."
Over a decade later, I might caution myself that in English, a more accurate word than "soldier" might be "conscript", although some on the site might claim that mercenaries are often more like a conscript indentured by capitalism, than like voluntary traders in a free and efficient market.

... and yet you couldn't afford crossposting?
It didn't occur to me. What territory made sense other than meta?
I agree it is most narrowly meta; and also realized after walking afk that you might currently be one of the folks who are averse to crossposting as a general default, and would only do so for deliberate promotion campaigns rather than this kind of chatty post...
after I actually read your post, I felt a bit pissed because it seemed to be more commentary about our favorite first among equal of the ~Stacker_Stocks , brightest of the ruddy golden hex codes for ~charts_and_maps , final nail in the coffin of ~econ , aka ~bitcoin
... but yeah, narrow-posting in ~meta is probably the most appropriate, as there isn't actually a "bitcoin price talk" territory and I guess the speculation is more about SN territory pricing than rubbernecking the bitcoin price crash.
Maybe I don't cross post as much as I should. I haven't given it much thought. I didn't understand this part, though:
I wasn't trying to make a commentary on any particular territory.
why is cross-posting a moral thing
whether or not approaches being a fundamentally ethical question as the portion of expenditure someone has posting diminishes relative to the totals of posting, commenting, etc; and honestly I don't have any strong bias towards whether it is "moral" to crosspost-by-default, thus effectively pressuring oneself to post less frequently while sharing the rewards across more territories, or target posts narrowly, thus arguably not making any significant disincentivization to the fragmentation of the SN community into territories with gradually less cross-talk.
after thinking through that while typing it all out, I'm slightly biased towards it being morally preferable to both crosspost when the budget allows, and monopost when wishing to reduce crosstalk; ideally the people who crosspost-by-default would be familiar enough with all the relevant overlapping territorial subsets of the generalized SN community that there would not be a resultant harm of blending the potentially valuable emergent diversity of different communities into a tepid blandness of the kind that makes interesting people drift away from places like Reddit even if they don't get shadowbanned first.
and to that I’d say:
touch some grass
Good question
I didn't mean to denigrate any of the other territories, that was just a rambling disordered prose list of possible crossposting candidates.
How many territories are profitable currently?
They are currently overpriced whatever currency they are denominated in.
SNs needs to change the fees structure to reflect the lack of viability of the current charges imposed on territories.
Rational people often compute a similar valuation upon mining hardware, although somehow the market not only survives, but keeps on pushing
log2_workupwards... looking at inefficiences on the "days to rewrite entire chain" scale, sometimes, it's almost like our hemisocial computing spiderome hasn't even begun to climb a much larger mountain that remains out of sight, far away, a little upwards and a long way to the right...Home mining BTC is a pursuit driven primarily by enthusiasm and hope rather than probable economic returns.
Even though I have 'free' solar electricity I am unlikely to ever see a real net return on the cost of investment in home miners...certainly relative to simply buying more sats.
I would suggest territory ownership on Stacker News is much the same in nature.
Driven by enthusiasm and hope, rather than cold hard rational expectations on likely economic return.
Neither can be said to be rewarding investments in terms of profitability thus far - they are both almost always loss making investments, though may be a lot of fun otherwise.
cheap can always get cheaper... plus, (future) revenue is dependent on the value of sats themselves. Meaning you'd STILL be throwing good fiat after bad bitcoin
Oxymoron festival
yup, welcome to 2026 where nothing works and nothing makes sense.
Told y'all about the four year cycle last year when I was swapping sats for gold but did you listen?
No.
2026 makes perfect sense when you accept that China won the trade war and Trumps attempt to prop up petrodollar hegemony by siding with the Zionists has failed.
You are lost boys in your circle jerking Libertarain echo chamber.
Wake up to the reality of the emerging multipolar world.
It is starting to feel that way
I've thought about opening two separate territories a few times: one
bitcoin_latamfor the Hispanic community and anothersovereign_livingto publish topics about censorship resistance, sovereign identity, self-sufficiency, growing your own food, generating your own energy, things like that—something very specific. But I could afford the 50,000 sats a month, maybe now in a bear market, but 3 million is much more expensive all at once (it's almost three of my salaries, give or take). It's a good idea for territory owners that haven't bought outright.
