Just found out that Marvin Gayes version was not the original. It was Gladys Knight & The Pips:
It has a different feel, more classic R&B. I think Marvin Gayes version has been entrenched firmly in my brain though. His voice is so captivating.
Another cover was done by Credence Clearwater in the style of Marvin Gaye which is also nice with rock instrumentation.

I am a CCR fan but I have to go with Marvin Gaye here.
I usually prefer originals, and Marvin and Gladys both did great versions, but CCR is my personal favorite.
