This is a great story! Bitcoiners are so cool!
Back in 2017, when SegWit activated, an OG Brazilian bitcoiner named Narcelio pulled off something I thought was the coolest thing ever. SegWit became active at block481,824, and just 10 blocks later, in block481,834, he broadcasted a transaction that simply saidOP_RETURN Narcelio was here.
This transaction made a big impression on jaonoctus, and so when the Taproot was going to be activated, jaonoctus was thinking about how to get one of the first transactions mined. It's a tricky thing to do with a soft fork...
Technically, P2TR outputs were spendable before activation. 0xB10C has a great writeup on this: Spending P2TR outputs before activation. Before theSCRIPT_VERIFY_TAPROOTrules were enforced, a P2TR output was effectively anyone-can-spend, and at block692,261he worked with F2Pool to mine a transaction (b10c007c60e14f9d087e0291d4d0c7869697c6681d979c6639dbd960792b4d41) that swept four P2TR outputs and donated the funds to brink.dev.
But, that doesn't mean you can't try to be the first Taproot transaction after Taproot is activated, especially if you have a good way to dunk on another Bitcoiner:
My original plan was boring: writejaonoctus was here, an obvious homage to Narcelio's 2017 transaction. But then a guy on the bitcoinheiros Discord suggested a much funnier alternative: writechupanarcel.ioand actually go buy the domain.chupanarcel.ioreads as "chupa, Narcelio", which is Brazilian Portuguese for, politely, "suck it, Narcelio!". I loved it. So I bought the domain and wrote that into the chain.
The rest of the story is super! If you're looking for some good Bitcoin content, give it a read.
Narcelio is a real OG. In his videos and on Discord, he answers a wide range of questions, maintaining a technical stance that aligns with the Bitcoin ethos. He is one of the few trustworthy Portuguese-speaking figures in this space. In interviews, he has mentioned that he learns by answering questions from newcomers; when he doesn't know an answer, he goes out and learns it.
Long live the Bitcoin answer guys!
