I’m also a late dad. I think being an older parent has its advantages even though it makes me very exasperated having to go through the terrible 2/3 stage at this late season in my life haha
that's insane
If it were caused by women having children later at much higher rates, it would be fine.
Moar kids!
probably not, medically/physically speaking?
Aren't we biologically/socially better parents the younger we are? (More energy, better health, can take/suffer sleepless nights better)
so that's why my students are getting dumber
Because you're older or because their parents are older?
Because they're having fewer kids?
I'd wager outcomes are better for kids with a 40 year old mom than for a kid with a 14 year old mom.
More importantly, these don't have to be first children. They could be additional children that would not have been had previously.
The correlation between high-cost living and delayed parenthood is glaring here. Washington D.C. leading at 13.6 and NY at 10.5 isn't just a lifestyle choice; it's a financial necessity. People in major hubs spend their 20s and 30s battling fiat inflation and aggressive housing costs just to achieve baseline stability. By the time they can finally afford a mortgage and a nursery, they are well into their 40s. Turns out stacking sats is the new prerequisite before stacking diapers.
