........ so OpenAI is going to go with an Alexa.....

OpenAI’s much-anticipated push into consumer devices is slated to begin with a mobile, screen-free smart speaker designed to be a new type of home computer for the AI era, according to people familiar with the matter.

The product — still under development — is meant to serve as a humanlike AI companion that lives in the home, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the project hasn’t been announced. It will help control smart-home appliances, play media, answer questions, respond to messages and tap into the range of capabilities offered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, they said.

I cannot see how this does not end up in flames because I cant imagine who would want something like this. People are worried about their privacy and so a speaker is going to be OpenAI's solution.............. Swing and a miss.

Unless the design is really good people might ignore this.

Plus open ai needs a conduit for people to pay for their AI models.

my thoughts exactly! Google and Amazon (possibly Apple I think they did something in this space) all already have a baked in ecosystem so I don’t understand what OpenAI could possibly offer ya know?

Yea the b2c customer base might struggle.

This chart is very telling. Open AI needs to become a B2B (ads like Google and Meta) or B2G business to generate the revenue they need to pay for all this growth they are expecting.

For example:

My coworker loves chat. He is using it for everything from losing weight to managing his retirement portfolio (yup he fed it all his investments), to booking his travel . But he’s only paying $20 a month. I can only imagine the millions of tokens he is burning and value he is getting is meh in my humble opinion.

I told him long ago to eat less and walk more focus on protein and he will lose that beer gut but it took the Open AI motivation for him to control his eating habits. But I think he would dump chat in a heartbeat if he was paying the true cost of his token spend. And I don’t see him buying hard ware just for chat when he has his iPhone.
