Honestly, I don't think this scoring system is fair. Why do semifinal picks give you more points than the group stage? In some crazy scenarios, someone who gets 4 right can beat someone who nailed 8. Doesn't feel right, since the whole point is guessing the actual scores. Predicting a semifinal is just as hard as a group game, anyway. It was a great contest. Thanks for setting it up!

The reasoning behind was that, in theory, guessing group stage matches were going to be easier than quarterfinals or semifinals, where the result could go either way. So I was trying to avoid someone getting a lead at the beginning and then, once we get to the final stages, everyone has lost interest due to the difference and not being able to reach it.

However, I get your point and I will consider it for future pools. Perhaps not giving so much difference.

Nah, I don't buy it. Spain vs France in the group stage is just as tough as in the semis. I think a point system like kickstr is way fairer. Just an idea though! Your contest, your rules!

This isn’t just because the rules helped me win, but there are also engagement reasons for escalating the point values.

With how many more matches there are in early rounds of a tournament, contests with equal points throughout tend to be decided early. That makes them much less fun to be part of.

I'm not 'salty' because I lost or whatever. Just saying what would actually be fair. Again, it makes no sense that someone wins with fewer right picks than everyone else.

You aren’t wrong in an abstract sense but there can be a tension between fun and fair with contest design.
