Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary. I've bought some flowers for my wife to give her in the morning. They look beautiful. We'll see when they arrive.

Hmm, I just found out that I can't configure the fee rate I'm willing to pay on a channel close transaction when using Alby. I paid 121 sats/vb when the going rate is only 1 sat/vb

boo

reply

It was a cooperative close, not a force closure?

reply

yes, cooperative close

Alby is a rip off.
Coinos is so much more cost effective.

@BlokchainB the universe is telling me something

reply

It's trying to tell you the old Alby logo was better than the new one.

One day, you'll wake up, and you'll be the second-worst developer @ek has ever known

that sounds almost too rude without the necessary meme context haha

reply

hahaha who’s the first?

@denlillaapan @Scoresby one of you'se wanna take this?

Another treasury company gone, just voted to sell 600+ btc with a 80% loss to creditors

reply

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUUUUST!!

reply

dun dun dun

another one bites the dust

reply

The question I always ask is: why pay a treasurer when you can buy your own BTC and handle your own custody? For the dividends?

reply

1 no need to learn Bitcoin
2 access via their legacy trading account
3 self custody too scary, let daddy give password reset
4 greed! Traders love the vol
5 daddy state gives regulatory rules in a wrapper

reply
  1. Cheap(-ish!!) leverage
reply

6 suffer 80% loss. How? Oh it is because you were buying stonks at premium to nav from the stonkprinter that went brrrrrr, not Bitcoin.

Here's aantonop telling everyone the truth that apparently y'all need to hear once more:

reply

Gotta watch this one more time.

Think Saylor knows it??

reply

I don't think he cares. He's buying bitcoin with other people's money. Probably borrowing against his own stock.

Some people are in Bitcoin for the freedom, others for the NgU. And then there's those that just want the hookers & blow.

reply

I liiiiiiiiike hookers and blow

reply

which one is Saylor?

reply

the desire for the easy way out,
and really not understanding anything about Bitcoin while just wanting to make a profit (without denying that one wants profits too).....!

reply

I'm not going to say it, because you can imagine what I would say, right?

reply

Oh ahahahahah but Needs is hiring real devs! hahah

But hearing how much he is spending is more reason why I gave up on my SN native app dream.

I don’t have the time or money to really go deep. And even if I do it will be a lot of effort for not many users

reply

I don't think I know anyone that truly likes reviewing and fixing slop code. Maybe some stacker will prove me wrong though and describe to me exactly what is so appealing about it, I'd like that (though it'll be hard to convince me of non-trolling.)

Here's my face and the saloon-exclusive, best take for my OpenSats grant application so far[1]:

(After 21 takes, I lost all my enthusiasm and turned to sarcasm at the beginning.)

I will not use it because I haven't mentioned what I want to work on during my grant at all, haha

  1. Thanks to AI slop, OpenSats now mandates two reference letters and 2-min videos are "strongly encouraged" ↩

You say they're in Brazil—is that right? I don't understand English very well.

PS: You should let that beard grow out instead of fighting it; with that long hair, you'd look like a real Viking.

No, I mentioned that I went to Brazil for the bitcoin++ exploits edition in February.

This made me think that adding English subtitles could be a nice touch, so that someone from the committee wouldn’t even need audio to watch my 2-min video. Thanks!

PS: You should let that beard grow out instead of fighting it; with that long hair, you'd look like a real Viking.

But I don’t want to look like a real Viking 👀

My ear for English is terrible, hahaha.
Thank God for subtitles, hahaha.

For a while, I struggled with my beard—it’s not as thick as yours looks in the video—but I just let it grow out, and now I just keep it groomed. Looking at photos from about three years ago, I look like a kid without that beard; it’s a huge difference.

It really depends on personal taste, though... so don't worry about it.

I didn't know you were applying for a grant -- very cool! Can stackers help out somehow? Letter writing campaign? Social media boosting?

(also what you plan to work on sounds excellent)

reply
Can stackers help out somehow?

No, I don’t think so, but sweet offer![1]

I’m already receiving a lot of help from Chaincode Labs thanks to the BOSS program earlier this year. All the support I’m getting actually makes me quite nervous about how hard it must be to get a grant, haha. From what I’m hearing, though, I have good chances.

I also heard that some people spent only 30 minutes on their successful applications. That was last year, though. I think grant organizations are drowning in AI slop now.

  1. or I guess if OpenSats happens to reach out to ask if I actually worked here, just don’t lie haha ↩

So today I went to class and talked through the mechanics of how to write a story mountain. One boy suggested that the main character could have gotten burnt through the process of making sandwiches. I went with the flow.

I’m particularly pleased with the way I concluded that lesson, for inspiration struck me out of the bolt. I spoke emphatically about how better writers need to include a third layer in their conclusion. Something specifically about loving their mum.

And this opened the floodgates for this lower ending to come to me:

I presented my sandwiches sheepishly to my mother. Her soft smile said it all. I was heartened to have continued making the sandwiches without giving up. I would make sandwiches for her again in a heartbeat!
